“Most of Jeshua’s teachings concerned thoughts and feelings. He considered that the quality of our thoughts dictated the quality of our lives. He referred to our consciousness as the place where God dwells. But that was sacrilegious to the Jews; so he couched it in more subtle terms like ‘the secret place of the Most High’.”
“That feels so right, John. You mentioned Jeshua took healing to a new level. What do you mean by that?”
“Our Essene belief is that God is love and dwells in the hearts of all people. So, with this Supreme Power within, healing from any illness is possible. Notwithstanding this possibility, each soul is on a journey of discovery through many lives. Disease is a part of the journey. Illness can be a teacher. It can teach patience, for a start. If an illness is serving a purpose for an individual’s soul, any attempt to heal that person is likely to fail. So, if we can gain information on where any soul is on their path, it can be so valuable.”
“In this sense, Jeshua was amazing. He could read a person’s soul path just by looking at them. In fact, he could do so even by just thinking about them. He healed people without laying eyes on them.”
“I recall one man asking for healing of his long-standing abdominal pain. Jeshua could see that his anger towards his wife was eating him up inside and that he was not ready to let that anger go. So, he told him to return after he had sorted out his differences with his wife.”
“Another woman asked Jeshua for healing, but he could see she still needed her illness. It was gaining her the attention and support she believed she would not get otherwise. He encouraged her to trust in her ability to look after herself, assuring her that healing would follow.”
“When Jeshua showed his ability to heal, he would choose someone ready to part with their illness. In that way, his rate of success was way ahead of our average score. He didn’t waste time laying hands on people who were still needing their illness.”
“Did that mean he succeeded every time?”
“Not quite,” John replied with a smile, “but he almost always had initial success. Sometimes it was instantaneous. Pain would disappear, bleeding would stop, and the disabled would start moving paralysed limbs.”
“Yet, not all miraculous healings would last. Healing brings about change. To give a rather obvious example, you can bring healing to diseases related to alcoholism. But if the person goes back to heavy drinking again, the ailments will recur. One day, Jeshua healed ten lepers. Later, we discovered only one of them had retained the healing. The one who remained healthy realised the gift he had received. He turned his life around and returned to thank Jeshua.”
“Jeshua could read the beliefs of people, too. Sometimes he would apply mud to an affected area of the body. At other times, he would send them to bathe in a river. He explained that he didn’t need the mud or the water, but the sick people did. He saw they needed some physical application to believe they could heal.”
“Jeshua must have been a hard act to follow in the healing business!”
“You can say that again, Baruch,” John said with a chuckle. “Most of us were in total awe of his gifts. It was difficult for many of us to accept his reassurances that we could all help people to heal, but he never gave up on teaching us. He stressed that intuitive skills like his were handy but not compulsory. Knowledge of the body and the nature of illness could also be useful, but not essential. He repeatedly told us that the moment we ask to be an agent for helping another person, help arrives. Whether it be hands-on healing or prayer from a distance, invisible helpers from higher realms come to our aid. And these angelic beings know precisely what part of the patient’s ailing body to direct the energy towards, and for how long. Our task is to quiet our busy minds and just follow our intuition. The spiritual helpers are grateful for having a human channel through which they can bring their healing powers.”
“Jeshua stressed three essential qualities we must bring to those who request our help. He referred to them as the Big Three: hope, faith, and love.”
“Hope is often in short supply for people who have been ill for a long time. Many have given up hope, accepted their fate, and adjusted to their limitations. When we enter their lives believing they can regain their health, we bring them hope. While some people accuse us of bringing false hope to the sick, we always say that ‘while there is life, there is hope’. Jeshua went even further, healing people whose lives appeared to have already come to an end. I saw him bring people back from the dead. On one occasion, he brought his friend Lazarus back to life hours after he’d officially died. That taught us never to give up hope.”
“That is incredible, John.”
“Jeshua stressed the need to start with an attitude of faith and trust. If someone has come to see us looking for help, they are at least showing faith that we can help them. He advised us against going out looking for people to heal. He said that the initial impulse must always come from the sick person. The quest must precede the answer.”
“Much of what he taught us was about trusting the process. When we put our hands on someone suffering from illness, we might feel heat running through our hands. At other times, the patient may describe a feeling of warmth emanating from our hands. Another time, we might feel a drawing sensation tingling through our hands and arms. When these signs occur, it is easy to trust that healing is taking place. But there will be times when there is no sensory evidence for the healer or the recipient. These are the times we need to maintain our faith that healing forces are still at work. Jeshua kept reassuring us that signs are not essential. The moment we ask for help, that help is already on the way. Our task is to trust that. When we do so, that faith transmits to the patient, and the patient believes they are getting better. That brings about healing.”
“The final essential is love, which is the ultimate energy of Source. As Jeshua put it, God is Love. When we bring love and optimism to sick people, we bring the highest qualities of the Divine, rekindling those qualities within them. Often, people who are ill feel cut off from the love that exists within them. It is this quality above all that brings health back into their lives. What can be stronger than the energy of God, our Source, which can heal all sickness and dysfunction in body or mind?”
